We Build Houses With Straw

Utilizing the efficiency of pre-manufactured, Structural Insulated Panels, using locally available straw as insulation, we are able to cut time and cost in the building process, while obtaining a higher R-value due to thicker insulation. Building with straw not only leads to a warmer house— it is also a more affordable, more environmentally friendly option than conventional construction offers.

Our straw is no-spray, locally sourced, and tested for proper moisture levels.

All panels are constructed with quality and care to ensure a high-quality product.

Customers may choose between pre-designed customizable house plans, as well as the option to work with an architect to design their own home using this technology.

A straw bale SIP (Structurally Insulated Panel) is essentially a compressed box of straw (for insulation) wood (for structure) and plaster/plywood. These panels are assembled and secured together to compose all the components of a wall. It is our belief that this is a superior method of construction for this region and time.

Straw is available locally in most regions of the US. It is a good insulator and is inexpensive when compared with other natural insulation types such as hemp or wool. When plastered and sheathed, it is heavily fire resistant, and at 14 inches thick, it beats the insulator value of a traditional 2x6 stick framed wall by at least double.

For full-service design, we will manufacture and build your straw-bale home from the ground up!‍

Partnering with Builders and Competent DIY’ers

If your project is located within 300 miles of Roanoke VA, (North Carolina, Tennessee, West Virginia) or you already have a trusted builder this may be a better option for you.

For this option, we will:

1. Design & manufacture your home

2. Ship you the building materials

3. Assemble the walls

4. Partner with a local contractor in your area to help with the completion of your home
